{"id":7339,"date":"2017-08-28T17:03:00","date_gmt":"2017-08-28T17:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/millsrecruitment\/?p=123"},"modified":"2025-10-17T01:40:22","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T01:40:22","slug":"changing-perceptions-about-external-recruitment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.millsrecruitment.com\/nz\/news\/changing-perceptions-about-external-recruitment\/","title":{"rendered":"Changing perceptions about external recruitment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As business leaders, being aware of, and addressing the challenges of our businesses is an\u00a0essential part of what we do, and regardless of how uncomfortable it makes us, there\u2019s\u00a0always a great benefit to be found in leaning into the issues that hold us back.<\/p>\n<p>For my company, and I\u2019d imagine for my industry colleagues, the greatest challenge that\u00a0presents is the current perception of recruiters as annoying sales people, rather than genuine\u00a0business partners.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a challenge I reflect on often, and as our team seeks to overcome it, here are five actions\u00a0that we are taking.<\/p>\n<h3>Educating on what we do<\/h3>\n<p>We understand that there\u2019s always a conversation about recruitment happening, and we\u00a0have the option of spectating or leading. We choose the latter, proactively educating\u00a0people on the way we see recruitment, and in turn adding a positive voice into the mix.<\/p>\n<h3>Investing time<\/h3>\n<p>We come across a lot of prospective clients and candidates who, because of past\u00a0experiences, have concerns about engaging an external company. We address this by taking\u00a0the time to listen and then build bridges, which represent a strong foundation for the future.<\/p>\n<h3>Refining our focus<\/h3>\n<p>Whilst being the recruiter of choice for all could be seen as appealing, the reality is that it\u2019s\u00a0an unrealistic objective.
