Mills Recruitment are working with a leading tier 1 EPCM to source a Senior Piping Engineer
THE ROLE
You’ll plan, develop, coordinate and review plant design and piping work on a large project with specialised requirements — optimising facility layout against P&IDs, client requirements, current technology and the realities of operations and maintenance. Your technical input drives configuration compliance, procurement quality and the resolution of the genuinely complex problems.
Day to day:
- Prepare original designs, layouts, details, drawings and specifications
- Develop and interpret design criteria and specifications for complex piping infrastructure
- Examine and analyse pipe configurations for ANSI/ASME code compliance
- Work through conflicting design requirements — sketching ideas, testing solutions
- Assess the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and difficult coordination requirements
- Prepare equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations
- Prepare procurement and subcontract requisition documents with associated technical bid evaluations
- Coordinate piping engineering across specialty groups, other disciplines, the client, vendors, contractors and construction
- Prepare testing plans and hydrotesting procedures, monitor field installation, and work with the Construction Supervisor on technical and non-conformance issues
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering plus 8–10 years’ relevant experience, or 12–14 years without
- RPEQ certification — essential
- Strong piping engineering fundamentals: calculation, specification, material and valve selection, P&ID development, equipment arrangement, wall thickness and branch connection calculations, component requisitions
- Pipe stress capability using Caesar II, AutoPIPE or equivalent
- Experience with 3D model review — Navisworks, Navigator
- Working knowledge of the applicable industry codes and standards
- Advanced safety awareness, and the communication skills to resolve problems across a multidisciplinary team
