Heavy Diesel Mechanic | Pilgangoora | 13-Week Temp to Perm | 8/6 – 7/7
Mills Recruitment is seeking experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanics to join our client’s mobile maintenance team at their Pilgangoora mining operation.
This is a genuine 13-week temp-to-permanent opportunity for experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanics looking for long-term job security and the opportunity to join a growing mobile maintenance team.
You will initially join through Mills Recruitment for 13 weeks on a casual assignment. Following successful completion of the 13-week period, you will transition into a permanent position directly with our client.
$90.00 Hourly Casual Rate before transitioning to a permanent position.
Permanent Package Following 13 Weeks
On successful transition to permanent employment, the package includes:
- $170,000–$180,000 annual salary
- $10,000 sign-on bonus
- $5,000 after completing 6 months
- Additional $5,000 after completing 12 months
- Additional annual bonus opportunities
- 8/6 and 7/7 rotating roster – days and nights
- Long-term permanent employment

The Role
Working within the mobile maintenance team, you will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing a large fleet of heavy mobile mining equipment.
Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor, your responsibilities will include:
- Planned and preventative maintenance
- Breakdown and unplanned repair work
- Mechanical diagnostics and fault finding
- Inspections, servicing and repairs across heavy mobile equipment
- Working across CAT, Epiroc and Komatsu equipment
- Completing repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications and site procedures
- Following maintenance schedules and contributing to equipment availability and reliability targets
- Identifying mechanical faults and providing effective repair solutions
- Working closely with the wider HME maintenance team
- Maintaining high workshop, housekeeping and safety standards
- Communicating day-to-day maintenance activities with the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor
What We’re Looking For
We’re particularly interested in experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanics with strong diagnostic and fault-finding capabilities who are comfortable working across breakdowns, repairs and planned maintenance — rather than candidates whose experience is predominantly routine servicing.
To be considered, you will ideally have:
- Relevant nationally recognised Heavy Diesel / Mobile Plant trade qualification
- Current driver’s licence – minimum LR
- Minimum 2 years’ post-trade mine-site experience
- Strong experience maintaining heavy mobile mining equipment
- Experience across CAT, Epiroc and/or Komatsu equipment
- Strong mechanical diagnostic and fault-finding capability
- Good understanding of workshop standards, maintenance processes and repair techniques
- Previous open-cut mining experience
- Strong commitment to safety
- Ability to work effectively within a busy maintenance crew
- Ability to work across both planned maintenance and breakdown situations
Highly Regarded
Experience or tickets in the following will be advantageous:
- Drill maintenance and repair experience
- CAT, Epiroc and Komatsu equipment exposure
- Pronto experience
- Forklift
- EWP
- Working at Heights
- CV Crane
- Basic Rigging
- Previous mine-site competency statements or training authorisations
