We’re partnering with a well-established local government organisation in Perth’s northern suburbs to find a hands-on Leading Hand for their Engineering Maintenance team.
This is an initial casual contract with the potential for a full-time opportunity offering job security, a strong safety culture, and the chance to contribute to infrastructure that directly benefits a growing community.
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you’ll lead day-to-day engineering maintenance activities across drainage and transportation assets — keeping roads, drainage networks and related infrastructure safe and well-maintained. You’ll guide a small team of General Hands, make practical on-the-ground decisions, and ensure work is delivered safely and efficiently.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a small work crew, including supervising General Hands and supporting new employees
- Undertake daily engineering maintenance of infrastructure assets across drainage and transportation
- Operate multi-function plant and equipment to complete maintenance tasks
- Interpret plans and instructions, and make technical and operational decisions relating to work tasks and safety
- Maintain tools, minor plant and equipment, and report any damage, defect or loss
- Liaise with colleagues, contractors and members of the public
- Process documentation including timesheets and work orders, and prepare maintenance-related correspondence
- Apply Work Health & Safety practices, including hazard identification, across all activities
About you
- MR class vehicle license
- Construction induction (White/Blue Card)
- Ability to operate multi-function plant and equipment
- Knowledge of engineering maintenance procedures
- Experience using information systems and technology
- Capable of physical, manual labour and working as part of a team
- Year 10 level education with passes in Maths and English
Highly regarded:
- Certificate in Engineering or a related discipline
- HR class vehicle license
- Level 1 supervisory certificate
- Relevant plant/equipment operation tickets
- MRWA Basic Worksite Traffic Management and/or Traffic Controller accreditation
- Confined Space, Gas Testing and First Aid certifications
