If you’re a Mechanical Engineer who enjoys designing practical solutions, solving engineering challenges and seeing your work become a finished product, this could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.
About our client
Our client is a growing Australian technology and engineering business based in Ballarat, Victoria, delivering innovative equipment and engineered solutions across the agriculture, grain handling and manufacturing sectors. With strong agricultural ties, their work combines mechanical engineering, technology and manufacturing to develop solutions that improve the performance, efficiency, reliability and functionality of customer operations.
With the business continuing to grow across Australia and internationally, they are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join their Engineering team and contribute to the next stage of that growth.
For candidates already in Australia, this is an opportunity to join a business with plenty of variety and opportunity ahead. For New Zealand-based engineers with Australian working rights, it could be the perfect chance to take your career across the Tasman and experience life in regional Victoria.
The opportunity This isn’t a role where you’ll simply be handed a drawing and asked to make changes. You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in the engineering behind the product, from initial requirements and design through to manufacturing, testing, installation and commissioning.
About the role
Working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales and Production teams, you’ll help turn customer requirements into practical, reliable mechanical solutions. You’ll be working on real, physical engineering solutions, where your designs move from CAD and concept through to something manufactured, installed and operating in the field.
Responsibilities:
- Designing mechanical systems, components and equipment for customer projects
- Taking projects from order confirmation through to commissioning
- Developing detailed engineering drawings and design specifications
- Creating component lists, product reports and manufacturing documentation
- Developing and improving the company’s core product range
- Testing and evaluating designs and making modifications where required
- Investigating design or manufacturing issues and developing practical solutions
- Redesigning components and systems to improve performance, efficiency, reliability and cost
- Working closely with the manufacturing team to ensure designs are practical to produce
- Supporting production planning and identifying potential manufacturing challenges early
- Collaborating with QA and other teams when customer requirements change
- Contributing to R&D and new product development
- Identifying opportunities to improve products, processes and productivity
- Ensuring designs meet relevant Australian and international standards
- Providing technical input and recommendations to internal teams and customers
It’s a great fit for someone who likes variety rather than doing the same thing every day, enjoys working alongside manufacturing teams and gets satisfaction from finding a better, smarter or more efficient way of doing things.
About you
We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer who brings a combination of technical capability, curiosity and practical thinking.
You’ll ideally have:
- A Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Solid experience using CAD and CAM
- Strong mechanical design skills
- Experience analysing requirements and developing engineering solutions
- The ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical people
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
- A self-motivated, collaborative and solutions-focused approach
- A current driver licence
Experience with Matlab/LabView and FEA would be advantageous.
Experience in manufacturing or agriculture will be highly regarded, particularly if you’ve worked with equipment, machinery, grain handling, food processing or other industrial applications.
Why make the move?
You’ll be joining a business that is growing, working on products with a genuine purpose and having the opportunity to influence how those products are designed, manufactured and improved.
And if you’re considering a move from New Zealand, Ballarat offers a fantastic lifestyle with easy access into Melbourne.
What’s on offer:
- $100,000 – $130,000 AUD + superannuation, depending on experience
- Ballarat, Victoria location
- Interesting and varied mechanical engineering projects
- Strong connection to agriculture, grain and manufacturing
- Opportunity to work across design, product development and project delivery
- Close collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams
- Opportunity to make a genuine impact on product and process improvements
- Growing business with long-term opportunities
Australian working rights are required for this position.
If you’re ready to put your engineering skills into projects you can actually see, touch and make a difference to, we’d love to hear from you.
