This role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical problem-solving, customer relationships and commercial outcomes, and wants to be involved in taking engineered solutions from an initial customer requirement through to quotation and project delivery. It could also be a great opportunity for a New Zealand-based candidate with Australian working rights who is ready for a move across the Tasman.
About the role
As Sales Engineer, you’ll sit at the intersection of sales, engineering and manufacturing, helping customers find practical, fit-for-purpose solutions while supporting the continued growth of the business.
You’ll work closely with customers and internal engineering and manufacturing teams to understand requirements, develop solutions and bring projects together commercially.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and managing new and existing customer relationships
- Understanding customer requirements and translating them into technical solutions
- Identifying new business opportunities and contributing to sales growth
- Preparing accurate cost estimates, quotations and scopes of work
- Working with Engineering and Manufacturing to develop fit-for-purpose solutions
- Attending customer meetings, site visits and inspections
- Interpreting engineering drawings, technical specifications and standards
- Supporting contract negotiations and project handovers
- Maintaining CRM records, sales forecasts and pipelines
- Monitoring project progress from a commercial perspective and supporting variations
- Building long-term relationships with customers, suppliers and industry partners
- Monitoring market trends, competitors and emerging technologies
- Representing the business at industry events, trade shows and client functions
About you
We’re looking for someone who can confidently talk technical with engineers and practical solutions with customers, while also understanding the commercial side of a sale.
You’ll ideally have:
- A degree or diploma in Engineering — Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial or similar
- Proven experience in technical sales within manufacturing, engineering or industrial environments
- Strong understanding of engineered systems, equipment selection and project-based sales
- Experience preparing quotes, costings and proposals for engineered products or services
- The ability to interpret technical drawings, CAD models and specifications
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
- Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- The ability to work autonomously while collaborating across multiple teams
- Full driver licence
Experience in agriculture, grain handling or specialised manufacturing would be highly regarded. Knowledge of SolidWorks and CRM/ERP systems would also be advantageous.
