THE ROLE
You’ll plan, develop, coordinate and review plant design and piping work on a large project with specialised requirements — optimising facility layout against P&IDs, client requirements, current technology and the realities of operations and maintenance. Your technical input drives configuration compliance, procurement quality and the resolution of the genuinely complex problems.

Day to day:

  • Prepare original designs, layouts, details, drawings and specifications
  • Develop and interpret design criteria and specifications for complex piping infrastructure
  • Examine and analyse pipe configurations for ANSI/ASME code compliance
  • Work through conflicting design requirements — sketching ideas, testing solutions
  • Assess the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and difficult coordination requirements
  • Prepare equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations
  • Prepare procurement and subcontract requisition documents with associated technical bid evaluations
  • Coordinate piping engineering across specialty groups, other disciplines, the client, vendors, contractors and construction
  • Prepare testing plans and hydrotesting procedures, monitor field installation, and work with the Construction Supervisor on technical and non-conformance issues

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering plus 8–10 years’ relevant experience, or 12–14 years without
  • RPEQ certification — essential
  • Strong piping engineering fundamentals: calculation, specification, material and valve selection, P&ID development, equipment arrangement, wall thickness and branch connection calculations, component requisitions
  • Pipe stress capability using Caesar II, AutoPIPE or equivalent
  • Experience with 3D model review — Navisworks, Navigator
  • Working knowledge of the applicable industry codes and standards
  • Advanced safety awareness, and the communication skills to resolve problems across a multidisciplinary team
